This course is the first half of first year Chemistry designed for students with a strong background in Chemistry. The Chemistry Department defines a strong background as at least a B in CHEM 12 or CHEM 060; however, the course is available to any student with CHEM 12 or CHEM 060. The course is taught concurrently to students in the Engineering Program as ECHE 111. Lecture topics include: gas laws, thermochemistry, equilibrium, atomic structure and periodic properties and periodic trends. The laboratory stresses fundamental precision techniques in quantitative analytical chemistry, as well as experiences in qualitative analysis and instrumental analysis.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 12 or CHEM 050 and 060 (a grade of B or better is recommended); Principles of Mathematics 12 or MATH 061; Physics 11 or PHYS 050 or PHYS 113.
