The University College of the Cariboo offers a Bachelor of Education (Elementary) program, which integrates two years of theoretical and pedagogical study with school experiences. Students who successfully complete all the program requirements receive a Bachelor of Education degree and qualify for a Professional Teaching Certificate issued by the British Columbia College of Teachers. This degree and certification qualifies the graduate to teach grades K-12 in B.C. public schools.
When selecting students for the B.Ed. program, the Admissions Committee considers: (a) experience with groups of elementary school-aged children, (b) academic background and performance, (c) the contents of the supplementary application form, and (d) letters from two referees. An interview may also be requested. The weighting of the application is as follows: GPA – 40%; supplementary application form and possible interview – 60%.
