Letter to the TRU Community

Update on Plans for 2021 Course Delivery

Dear TRU community,

Weyt-kp

I hope you are off to a positive, productive and healthy start to 2021.

Prior to the holiday break, I provided you with an update that we plan to gradually increase face-to-face delivery on campus. For spring and summer terms, we anticipate this increase to be reflected in those courses that have a practical component, and where it is safe to do so. Our goal for the fall term is for all students enrolled in TRU’s traditionally on-campus programs to have an opportunity for some face-to-face instruction on one of our campuses.

To focus on planning our fall 2021 return to campus initiative, I’m pleased to share that Dr. Donna Murnaghan has agreed to a seven-month secondment as special advisor to the provost.

Donna is the former dean of Nursing and was heavily involved with the planning and fruition of the Chappell Family Building for Nursing and Population Health project. In her new role, she is responsible for developing a project plan and implementation schedule for the fall term. Donna will begin the consultation process shortly.

Along with the safety of the TRU Community, our priority is to support the success of our students. I, along with other members of the executive, are very aware that the adjustments we have made to course delivery have impacted our students’ learning experience and that some students are succeeding while others are struggling. TRU’s Vision Statement inspires us to be the university where everyone finds a sense of belonging. With that, I look forward to our fall 2021 plan being one that offers our students flexible and leading-edge learning opportunities that align with their learning preferences.

Thank you to all of our faculty and staff who have shown extraordinary resilience and dedication during the pandemic. We all continue to be in this together, navigating the ever-changing road ahead of us. I am proud of our collective commitment to our safety and our students’ success.
