Frameworks for Teaching and Learning

In a national keynote address in 2010, Grand Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Canada Shawn A-in-chut Atleo stated that success in Indigenous communities is evident and this success provides an environment for Inuit, Metis, and First Nations communities to develop their central values of holistic and lifelong learning.

In 2009, The Canadian Council On Learning released their framework: "The State of Aboriginal Learning in Canada: An Holistic Approach to Measuring Success" which dispels stereotypes and offers an approach to learning that Chief Atleo believes is groundbreaking, encouraging, and will increase success for Aboriginal students.

This culturally appropriate framework offers educators an approach that not only identifies sources and domains of knowledge, but also measures learning through the lifespan, and identifies economic, health, and social barriers to learning.
