Waivers and Liability

Events are subject to risk assessments carried out by TRU at its sole discretion. If an event presents additional risk or increased liability to TRU, TRU may refuse to issue or revoke the permit, or may require the permittee/participants to sign additional documents i.e., waiver/informed consent.

If your event requires a waiver, it is the responsibility of the permittee to ensure all participants agree and sign the waiver. The process for collecting waivers is:

  • Risk and Safety Services (RSS) will create an event-specific waiver and provide a link you can send to participants so they can complete it prior to the event. You can also embed this link on event web pages for easy access.
  • Participants will fill the waiver out through Adobe Sign. This process does not require the signee to create an account, download or save documents. They will be asked to provide an email, as they must verify their identity and complete the process by clicking the link provided in the email.
  • All waivers are then sent to uos@tru.ca and stored digitally in Adobe Sign.
  • We also recommend having printed copies available on the day of for those that are unable to complete it digitally and will provide the pdf version upon request.

If you have any questions regarding the process, please reach out to uos@tru.ca.
