Program Review

The Program Review process at TRU assesses each program's effectiveness through evidence-based inquiry and analyses, with findings documented in a detailed report and action plan. Program Review focuses on continuous quality improvement, making good programs even better.

Policy

Program Review is coordinated through the Office of Mission Fulfilment and Quality Assurance and follows guidelines set out in TRU policy ED 8-4 Program Review.

Every program at TRU undergoes review at least once every seven years. Each Spring, a new cohort of programs begins. Programs scheduled for review are enrolled in the Program Review Course, and are provided orientation, templates, and guidance through eight modules over 14 months, culminating in a report to the Academic Planning and Priorities Committee (APPC). The Program Review Course is facilitated by the Office of Mission Fulfilment and Quality Assurance and the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.

Program Review Course

The Program Review Course is cohort-based and encompasses eight program review modules. Course content is available in Moodle and delivered through a variety of methods (both asynchronous and synchronous), such as through interactive workshops, one-on-one meetings, short info-sessions, and self-directed learning. The 14-month Course is facilitated by the Office of Mission Fulfilment and Quality Assurance and Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.

Resources

The Program Review Handbook includes instructions, resources, and templates for completing a successful review. Completed reports and action plans are available on TRU's internal Program Review OneTRU site.

Institutional Learning Outcomes at TRU

Thompson Rivers University’s Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs) were approved by Senate on April 29, 2019. The related policy revisions, to incorporate ILOs into policy ED 16-0 Types of Undergraduate and Graduate Credentials, were also approved unanimously on May 27, 2019.

TRU is committed to preparing students with the skills needed for future careers and to address current and future social, environmental, and ethical issues. To support this, TRU has established eight Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs) that all bachelor’s degree students will achieve by completion of their degree. These ILOs ensure that graduates possess foundational knowledge in a variety of areas, alongside their specialized degree expertise.
