Provincial Tuition Waiver
The Provincial Tuition Waiver waives tuition and fees for former BC Youth in Care who establish their eligibility and are enrolled in a post-secondary undergraduate credential or lifelong learning at a B.C. public post-secondary institution, and who meet the attached criteria.
In order to apply for the waiver and determine if you qualify, please complete and sign the application form, and deliver it to TRU Student Awards & Financial Aid, or email a scanned copy (pdf, not a photo) to finaid@tru.ca.
You do not need to be enrolled in order to confirm your eligibility, so please submit the form even if you are just considering attendance. The application process can take from one to four weeks. Once you have been approved, your eligibility will automatically continue each semester as long as you continue to enrol in an eligible program and courses - you do not need to re-apply.
For Open Learning courses only, you will need to pay for the portion of your course not funded by the waiver, including books, materials, and shipping at the time of registration. Please be prepared for this before you ask to be registered.
Speak with Student Awards & Financial Aid about other funding options - including grants, bursaries, or loans - for your books, and if appropriate your living, transportation, and daycare costs. In particular, the Learning for Future Grant is available to former BC Youth in Care enrolled either full-time or part-time to assist with additional unfunded costs. If you need additional funding beyond that grant, a Youth Futures Education Fund grant is also available to assist with various costs.
Speak with Finance if you have band funding or other sponsorship for these additional costs.
