University Relations

At University Relations, we share TRU’s story with the world. We believe in the power of education to transform lives and create positive change for individuals, communities and society.

Our team connects everyone TRU serves — from students, staff, and faculty to community partners, alumni, donors, and civic leaders. We are a resource for those inside and outside the university.

What we do

Advancement encompasses fund development, alumni relations, and events and ceremonies. We generate contributed revenue for TRU, advance the university’s philanthropic priorities and build lifelong relationships with alumni, donors and industry. Government Relations ensures TRU purposefully collaborates with government at all levels and across the post-secondary sector to promote our interests and advocacy priorities.

TRU Alumni, formerly the TRU Alumni Association, was established in 1990 and serves the alumni of Cariboo College, University College of the Cariboo, BC Open University and Thompson Rivers University. This global network has thousands of members in all parts of the world and in all walks of life. Every student of TRU becomes a member of TRU Alumni upon graduation. TRU Alumni provides this community of more than 100,000 with a variety of programs, perks and benefits.

Marketing and Communications works with units across the institution, and with faculties and schools to enhance TRU’s profile and reputation, attract prospective students, and foster community connection in the region TRU services. We promote and protect the TRU brand.

The Thompson Rivers University Foundation provides funds for the financial support of TRU students and TRU's programs and projects. The Foundation is a registered society under the statutes of the Province of British Columbia and can issue charitable donation receipts to all its donors.
