Hi everyone! I’m Harleena, a second year TRU Law student who joined the faculty in September 2025. I remember feeling both overwhelmed and excited during the application and acceptance process, and I want to support prospective and incoming students as they navigate those same steps.

Coming from Delta, B.C., this was my first time moving away for school, which can feel daunting. I hope to ease that transition for others by sharing what to expect in first year, from classes and orientation to meeting new people, getting involved, and finding community.

Jessanna

Taanishi/ Hello, my name is Jessanna, and I'm a proud Métis, mother of four, and 3L Juris Doctor student at Thompson Rivers University.

My path to law school has been anything but traditional. As a mature student and first-generation law student, I came to law after a career in mental health, high-risk youth counselling, Indigenous student advocacy, and Indigenous community programming. Those experiences continue to shape my commitment to advocacy, access to justice, and strengthening Indigenous communities.

Currently in law school, I have the privilege of serving as Co-President of the Indigenous Law Students' Association and as its representative on the Student Law Society. What I value most about TRU Law is its strong sense of community and the genuine support shared among students, faculty, and staff.

As a Law Student Ambassador, I'm always happy to connect with prospective and incoming students. Whether you have questions about applying, returning to school as a mature student, balancing family responsibilities, relocating to Kamloops, or getting involved in student life, I'd be happy to share my experience. I hope my journey reminds others that there is no single path to law school, it’s never too late and that they belong here!

Hi, I’m Simirin, a 2026 TRU Law graduate from Surrey, BC. I’m grateful for TRU’s collegial community, the mentorship that I received and the enriching programs that shaped my legal studies and the early stages of my career. Way', hello! My name is Cely-Rae Street, and I am a proud Syilx woman, third-year Juris Doctor student, and Co-President of the Indigenous Law Students' Association at Thompson Rivers University.

My journey to law has been shaped by resilience, community, and a deep commitment to advancing access to justice. Before law school, I worked in social work, child welfare, and Indigenous legal advocacy, supporting children, families, and communities navigating complex systems. Those experiences continue to inform my approach to law and my passion for creating legal spaces that are more accessible, culturally safe, and responsive to the needs of Indigenous Peoples.

I carry with me the teachings of my family, community, and ancestors, as well as the lessons that have come through grief, loss, and perseverance. These experiences have strengthened my belief that meaningful change happens through relationships, listening, and showing up for one another.

As a Law Student Ambassador, I am passionate about helping students navigate law school, access supports, and find a sense of belonging. Whether you're considering applying, preparing to start your first year, or simply looking to connect with another student, I am happy to share my experiences and answer questions.

Hi, my name is Salar, and I am a first-year TRU Law student from Coquitlam, B.C. One of the things I value most about TRU Law is its genuinely collegial and supportive community. From upper-year mentors to approachable professors and classmates, the people at TRU have played a significant role in shaping my law school journey. Through these experiences, I have built meaningful friendships and gained valuable insight that I hope to pass on to incoming students. Vivian

Hi! I'm Vivian, an incoming second-year law student at Thompson Rivers University. I am passionate about advocacy, litigation, and giving back to the TRU Law community. During my first year, I served as the 1L Representative for the First Generation Network, volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada through the Ask JES program, and served as a Marketing Team Member for the Human Rights Club. Outside the classroom, I enjoy playing pickleball, hiking, swimming, and hanging out with my colleagues. As a first-generation law student, I understand how overwhelming the law school journey can seem, especially when you may be moving away from home for the first time, and I'm always happy to answer questions about student life, academics, extracurricular opportunities, and what it's like to be part of the TRU Law community.
