Course Schedules, Williams Lake
Understanding the TRU Course Schedule
Courses are scheduled Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 8:50 p.m. Courses are offered in a block schedule and run for six hours per week for six weeks rather than the traditional three hours per week for 12 weeks. University Prep courses (0300-0600 level courses) run for 12 hours per week. The same material will be covered, just in a shorter time frame. Seminars and labs are also required for some courses. There are three components to the course schedule:
- Lectures: The core course material is presented here by the professors or instructors
- Seminars: Lectures are divided into smaller groups called seminars. Often you will give presentations, have group discussions, ask questions or review assignments
- Labs: Labs are where practical applications of material learned in the classroom is practiced. These are required for most sciences
It is the students' responsibility to check the course prerequisites prior to enrolling in the course. Course prerequisites, as stated in the course description section of the TRU Calendar, must be successfully completed prior to the start of class. Students who do not satisfy the course prerequisite may be withdrawn from the course. Prerequisites must have been successfully completed within the last five years with the minimum grade required. If you need to upgrade, don't worry! You can take upgrading courses at TRU through the University Preparation program (UPrep). Our Academic Advisor can help you determine if any upgrading is needed for your program of study.
Reading the Course Schedule
TRU Williams Lake has three semesters. The Fall and Winter semesters are divided into two six-week compressed "blocks." Trades programs, UPREP and some vocational programs do not follow the blocked schedule.
The Fall Semester is scheduled from September to December. This year the "blocks" are as follows:
Fall I: September 10, 2018 - October 26, 2018
Fall II: October 29, 2018 - December 14, 2018
The Winter semester is scheduled from January to April. This year the "blocks" are as follows:
Winter I: January 7, 2019 - March 1, 2019
Winter II: March 4, 2019 - April 26, 2019
Please check back often to keep your timetable up to date. Space in each course is limited. Please register early to ensure you get your desired course. Detailed descriptions of courses can be found in the TRU Calendar.
Some courses and programs run during the summer session. This takes place from May to August. Please check with the Academic Advisor to see if your program requires summer courses.
