Efficient Personal Heating Devices Library

(TRU staff and faculty only)

The Sustainability Office is excited to introduce the Efficient Personal Heating Devices Library, which is the continuation of our past “Space Heater Defeater” campaign. This program offers the opportunity to try out alternative personal heating devices for your offices for two weeks.

Why try this program?

  • Eco-friendly: reduce energy waste and stay warm without affecting the central heating system.
  • Comfortable: enjoy personalized heating options tailored to your workspace.

Devices available

  • Seat heaters
  • Heated keyboard pads
  • Electric blankets
  • Heating pads
  • Under the desk ceramic plates
  • Heated cushions

Requesting devices

  • Staff and faculty members interested in participating in the Efficient Personal Heating Devices Library program can submit a request by sending an email to sustain@tru.ca and include your name, @tru email, your department, your supervisor’s name and email to inform that you are participating in the program, your phone number and your specific device.
  • Devices will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to those registered. If the device is currently in use, you can join a waitlist, and once it is available, you will be notified of its availability.
Note

Devices are provided for a two-week trial period and must be returned afterward. If you’re interested in purchasing a device for personal use in your office space, please discuss it with your manager. While the Sustainability Office is not involved in purchasing decisions, we can provide a list of approved devices suitable for use on campus.

Feedback

Participants are encouraged to provide feedback on the comfort and effectiveness of the devices during the trial period.

Heating / cooling analysis

If your workspace feels too cold, please submit an Archibus request. The Facilities department will review and assess the issue. If necessary, they will address the problem and adjust the temperature to comfortable levels. If Facilities does not identify any issue, we recommend visiting the Sustainability Office to borrow a digital thermometer. Over the course of two weeks, record the temperature and the time when discomfort occurs, then provide this additional information to Facilities so they can look for any patterns.
