Fill it Forward

Show your love for the planet and the people on it, simply by choosing to reuse.

Fill It Forward

Fill it Forward is an innovative program that links your mobile device to your reusable beverage container. Every time you choose your reuseable beverage container over a single-use plastic bottle or disposable paper cup, Fill it Forward donates $0.02 to a trusted charitable partner to support Giving Projects worldwide. Giving Projects support charities focused on clean water, nutrition, reforestation, renewable energy and more. The app also tracks the environmental footprint of your choice to reuse, such as waste diverted from landfills or the ocean as well as emissions and power saved. As a bonus, every reuse you scan is an entry to win a $15 TRU Dining Card for food on campus!

How It Works

  1. Pick up Fill it Forward tags at one of four locations:
    • The TRU Bookstore in the Campus Activity Centre
    • Student Services in Old Main
    • TRU World in the International Building
    • Sustainability Office in the Human Resources building (orange door facing WolfPack Road/Gymnasium)
  2. Stick the tags to your water bottle or hot beverage container.
    • Teal is for water bottles

    • Navy is for hot beverage containers

    Why the difference?

Fill it Forward tracks the environmental footprint of your reuse, and the impact of making and shipping plastic water bottles is different from disposable paper coffee cups.

  3. Download the free Fill it Forward app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
  4. Scan the QR code on your tag every time you refill your water bottle or hot beverage container.

Bi-Weekly Prize Draw

Every time you record your reuse by scanning your tag with the Fill it Forward app, you add an entry into a bi-weekly prize draw for a $15 gift card for food vendors on campus! Draws are done every second Thursday, and the winner is notified through email.

Note

There is a 30-minute cool-down period between scans to discourage misuse.
