TRU Science

About Us

The Department of Computing Science is one of the fastest growing departments at Thompson Rivers University. Our department has developed a strong academic program that provides our students up-to-date knowledge and skills to make them employable and good foundations of major areas of Computing Science for their further study.

Our academic program offers small class settings for all Computing Science courses with a low instructor-student ratio. Each course emphasizes on students' hand-on practice in the computer lab environments with the latest software. In addition to learning all foundational courses, students can specialize in one of the areas including web design and development, networking, databases, and mobile application development. Our team-based course projects help students learn how to work with other colleagues, which is essential in many real-world projects.

Our faculty members are experts in their fields and many of them conduct active research programs within the department. They are approachable and available beyond their office hours. Many students maintain close relationships with the faculty members even after their graduation. Students have opportunities to be involved with the faculty members' research and industry projects. Please visit the "Research" section to see available research programs and projects in our department.

The department offers all our students a strong co-op program. Students have opportunities of working in the real-world industry and putting their knowledge into practice. This provides our students valuable experiences for their future career.

The department has diverse students with different backgrounds, both domestic and international students. We provide strong supports for all our students in their academics and future career. We have experience in helping international students in our program along with TRU World, which is the international education, training, and development division at Thompson Rivers University.
