Open Learning Accessibility Services
Accessibility Services are offered to eligible Open Learning students. As the course delivery method is different from on-campus classes, there are some differences in service and academic accommodation delivery to Open Learning students.
When an Open Learning student registers in a course, they have the option of indicating that they are a student who may require academic accommodations due to a health condition/disability. When students select the accessibility services requirement box, they will be asked to book a telephone appointment with an Accessibility Advisor to discuss their individual needs, so that, if eligible, accommodations can be set up before the course begins. Open Learning students must provide the appropriate documentation.
Accommodation letters will be sent to the Open Learning Exams Department, not to individual instructors. If a student requires accommodations for coursework, they will be encouraged to share the accommodation letter with their instructors.
Deadline to register with Accessibility Services
For Open Learning students, the deadline to register with Accessibility Services is six weeks prior to their final examination. Requests to register with Accessibility Services after this deadline will only be considered after being reviewed by the Director of Student Access and Academic Support.
Accommodated exams
When requested by the student, the Open Learning Exams Department will be issued an accommodation letter. The letter will outline approved accommodations. Students must be registered with Accessibility Services and register in their courses before a letter can be sent. To ensure access to exam accommodations, students are required to contact the Open Learning Exams Department at least two weeks prior to writing their final exam, to advise them that the exam has been booked. For instructions on how to book your final exam, please refer to the final exam or alternate assessment tab in Moodle.
Certain courses offered by Open Learning have online exams that are proctored by ProctorU. To learn more about Proctor U, please refer to the Proctor U FAQs.
