Tests and Exams

The Accessibility Services (AS) Test Centre's requirements and procedures ensure that examinations, tests, and quizzes, are done in a fair way that respects TRU’s policies on academic integrity and examinations. Students, invigilators, interpreters, readers/scribes, and all individuals assisting with exam accommodation are expected to be aware of, and follow, these procedures.

How to book exams

Quizzes, mid-terms and final exams

There are three ways to book your own exams: Use the Student Services Portal, submit a completed Accessibility Services Exam Booking Form by email, or visit OM 1482 to complete a pink booking form.

  • Faculty of Law students book exams through this online form.
  • Students must be registered with Accessibility Services, and have sent accommodation letters, before booking an exam.
  • All students who are newly registered with Accessibility Services must carefully read the Accessibility Services Test Centre Guidelines.
  • If, at any time, you have questions about the process, we encourage you to speak with the Test Centre staff.

Booking deadlines

The deadline to book quizzes, test. and midterms is one week before your class's scheduled test. The deadline to book final exams is three weeks before the last day of classes.

For midterms, tests, and quizzes

The Accessibility Services Test Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. during peak times (Fall & Winter Semesters). If your exam goes later than 5 p.m, and you want to write at the Accessibilty Services Test Centre, you must request an alternate time (see below).

Important: midterms, tests, and quizzes can be booked at the start of the semester based on your course outline. The latest the form can be submitted is one week before the test date.

After booking an exam, please provide your instructor/program contact with an exam envelope (at least one week before the test date). Envelopes are available at the Accessibility Services Test Centre.

If you do not provide your instructor/program contact with an envelope, they may not deliver your exam to the Test Centre on time; your instructor may assume that you are writing with the class.

For final exams

The latest a final exam booking form can be submitted is three weeks before the last day of classes.

During the final exam period, the Accessibility Services Test Centre is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.

After scheduling your exam(s), please provide your instructor/program contact with an exam envelope (at least three weeks before the final exam date).

If you do not provide your instructor/program contact with an envelope, they may not deliver your exam to the Test Centre on time; your instructor may assume that you are writing with the class.

Alternate times

If the scheduled class test/exam time conflicts with your course schedule, or if it is scheduled outside of the Test Centre office hours, you will need to let Accessibility Services and your instructor know as soon as possible so an alternate time can be agreed upon.

An instructor’s/program contact's signature is required to approve the alternative time if it does not overlap with the class exam start time.

To maintain the integrity of the test/exam and to avoid the potential for anyone to pass the information along to other classmates, no student will be allowed to leave the AS Test Centre until 30 minutes after the class start time. Because of this, we recommend that you bring something to read and/or study to pass the time if you finish early.

For faculty

The student will provide you with an exam envelope. Please complete the “Instructor” section.

Note that “duration” refers to how long the exam is designed to take – not how long you are giving the class to write.

If you are including extra time as per Universal Design, please only indicate how long the exam is designed to take.

Please upload the exam to the Instructor Portal, email the exam document to asexams@tru.ca, or deliver the exam to OM 1482 a minimum of 24 hours prior to the scheduled exam date. For an introduction on how to upload your exam to the Instructor Portal, please watch this instructional video.

Please pick up the exam as soon as possible after it has been written. If you prefer to have Accessibility Services return exams via inter-office mail, please email asexams@tru.ca to make arrangements.

Please be flexible in allowing students to write at alternate times when necessary (e.g. if your exam time falls outside of Accessibility Services’ regular hours).

Accessibility Services is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced exams.
