Practicum Opportunities

Thompson Rivers University Counselling Services will have two practicum placements available for Masters level practicum students.

Counselling Practicum Placements

The placement involves personal, academic and career counselling for current TRU students. It may also involve facilitating group therapy sessions and psychoeducational workshops. The placement will run from September, 2025 through April 30, 2026.

Practicum applicants must be available 2.5 days per week, which is approximately 20 hours per week. Due to office availability, there is no opportunity to increase weekly hours at this time. Practicum placements will be in‐person, with counsellors offering client appointments primarily in‐person and occasionally on Zoom.

Eligibility requirements

• Enrolment in a master's level counselling, clinical psychology or appropriate Social Work program, with all required courses completed.
• Knowledge of the BC Post‐Secondary education system.
• Ability to work independently as part of the counselling team.
• Commitment to maintaining ethical and professional standards of conduct.

1. Letter of intent (including your professional objectives for the practicum)
2. Current resume
3. Transcript of graduate coursework completed (an unofficial transcript is accepted)
4. List of three references

Application deadline and supervisor approval

Please submit applications by Monday April 1st. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by April 15th to arrange a virtual interview. Positions will remain open until filled.

Please note that both Supervisors on-site, are approved as Practicum Site Supervisors for Yorkville University, and would be willing to apply to be Site Supervisors at other universities but are not currently approved
